André Caminoa, Co-Founder of Printed Architecture, is an architect, researcher, and entrepreneur established in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from where he is developing his main professional activity.
Currently he is in the process of writing his thesis for a Masters program in Advanced Architectural Design at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) for a thesis dissertation that will be focused on the application of 3D Printing technology in architecture, which title is “Prefabrication by stereolithography of modular habitat systems: A conceptual design for extreme environments like Antarctica”.
In 2013, as a product of his extensive research and with international associates he has co-founded UNISPACE, which is an advanced design organization, geared to strategic advanced research in space architecture and its potential application on Earth, and experimental architecture for the development of futuristic concept designs. Since then, he has participated as collaborator in request for information/proposals (RFI/RFP) submited to the European Space Agency (ESA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
He has been a competitor in several contests and competitions. As a co-author of the “Mars Plus” proposal, he has been awarded in 2014 with an honorable mention prize for the Inspiration Mars Student Design Contest (Inspiration Mars Foundation & Mars Society, Houston 2014), initially planned as hypothetical mission concept architecture for a crewed mission to Mars, which utilizes 3D printing breakthrough technology to build the interior of the space-habitat and also the surface-habitat on Mars. One of the “Mars Plus” spin-offs may be the start-up of an enterprise that will provide space transportation and logistics services in owned outposts to third parties as well as perform specific missions for paying organizations.
He has authored and co-authored several papers which were submited and some of them have been personally presented, for instance at; Icarus Interstellar Starship Congress (Dallas 2013), Mars Society Convention (Boulder 2013, Houston 2014), 100 Year Starship Symposium (Houston 2013/14), International Astronautical Congress (Beijing 2013, Toronto 2014), 2nd Manfred Lachs International Conference on Global Space Governance (Montreal 2014), and 2nd Space Conference (Orlando 2014).
As a creative and strategic thinker, he has explored in his blog “Urbi et Orbi” the synergy between arts, science and technology. Since 2011, he is a member of the Lifeboat Foundation for the Media & Arts Board, and the Futurists Board, and he also has been a volunteer collaborator for the Interstellar Travel Bibliographical Survey Committee for the 2013 Campbell Conference.
Initially graduated in architecture and urbanism (UBA, 2002), he has complemented his academic background with different pos-graduated programs and courses related to communication and negotiation (Austral 2010), project management (PMI methodology, ITBA 2011), quality assurance (Intern Auditor ISO 9001/14001/18001 and IRCA Lead Auditor ISO 9001, TUV Rheinland 2012), and currently preparing for PMP certification (PMI BA Chapter 2014).
He has been working in the architectural and construction industry for more than 10 years, specializing in strategic direction, design, project, and construction management with a multidisciplinary vision for diverse multi scale projects, managing highly complex projects (Rond Point, Puente Hnos., Laboratorio Parma 1870, Kirkplastic, Financial Mobile Services, among others) providing to his clients design management and engineering, procurement, and construction services, with a solid knowledge of project management and quality standards.
In his early years of student, he received the first prize for the Passive and Low Energy Architecture Competition (PLEA 1999 Brisbane, Australia). An honorable mention prize for the Architecture Project Student Competition (FADU 1996).
